It became a kind of second home for all and was even the go-to stop for visiting musicians from across the pond like Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Donovan, and Jimmy Page. Here, a young Eric Clapton sits and listens to Joni Mitchell sing, “Urge for Going” as Cass’s daughter Owen looks on. A social media post of a small Bull Terrier mix desperately chasing its owner’s car struck a chord with dog lovers in Long Beach Wednesday.

At that point, only ten of the city’s buildings were open to the public—a far cry from the 64 open in 1956, reported National Geographic’s Frank Viviano in 2016. With the launch of the Great Pompeii Project in 2012, however, the situation has vastly improved. Researchers restored the three domus dwellings, or private family residences, as part of the Great Pompeii Project, a $140 million campaign funded chiefly by the European Union. The initiative strives to restore the city, which was famously buried by Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 A.D., to its former glory.

Did you know that the whimsical setting of the "Lover" music video was inspired by the vivid imaginations and dreamy aesthetics that Swift is known for? Explore the magical elements that make the "Lover" house a cornerstone of Swift's storytelling, inviting fans into a realm where every room tells a story. Swift's hard launch into stardom, Fearless is her 2008 sophomore album. Exploring themes of teenage friendship, love, imposter syndrome, and bad ex-boyfriends, the album brought Swift her first Album of the Year Grammy, arena tour, and spot on the Billboard Top 100. Located one floor above Taylor Swift's debut album, the Fearless room is decked out in warm tones of orange, marigold, and gold.

And although the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s have long since past, and Laurel Canyon’s feel and vibe has changed many times, today’s residents can still feel the enduring artistic history of the neighborhood. After Mama Cass died in 1974, the home would change hands a number of times between a host of celebrities. Later, Dan Aykroyd and his wife actress Donna Dixon called it one of their many homes. The Garden of Allah hotel, which was once located at the edge of the canyon and a favorite of many luminaries, was razed in 1959 for a bank branch. Although Cass’s friends, including Joni Mitchell, Frank Zappa, and Gram Persons, all lived in the canyon in nearby homes, it was here where they all seemed to rendezvous to share ideas, lyrics, joints, and beds.

Mama Cass is said to be the first of the “Free Love” generation to move into Laurel Canyon. Here, Natalie, Nick Adams, and Dennis Hopper are making dinner at the house in 1956. In 1957, Natalie met a handsome young actor named Robert Wagner who would later propose to her by secretly placing a pearl and diamond ring at the bottom of her glass of champagne. A tiny inscription on the ring read, “Marry me” and three weeks later he did. Get Los Angeles's latest local news on crime, entertainment, weather, schools, COVID, cost of living and more.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, Cincinnati author Emily Henry was a successful young-adult fiction writer best known for her female-driven stories that delved into magical realism and a hint of the extraterrestrial. The handsome Spanish Revival mansion at 2475 Glendower Place in wealthy Los Feliz has long been one of Los Angeles's creepiest mysteries. If the story was just that a doctor had killed his wife with a ball-peen hammer, then himself with Nembutal and pills, it'd still get passed around among neighborhood kids.

Spacious, open living areas, large windows, and weekly fresh flowers provide a relaxing atmosphere. Providing luxury white linens, every room offers plush bathrobes, slippers and free toiletries at Shutters On The Beach. Styled in hardwood floors with a refined Tibetan rug, each room provides an iPod docking station and a 42-inch flat-screen TV.

Arched doorways and vintage-inspired chandeliers blend seamlessly with modern amenities, offering a living space that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking. The Lover House, much like the album, encapsulates a dreamy, romantic vibe, but with a strong foundation that speaks to Swift's enduring legacy in the music industry. Where every stay is unforgettably unique and filled with a curious charm.

The House of the Lovers has reopened to the public 40 years after it suffered extensive damage in an earthquake. A rich dwelling with a well-tended garden, it's considered to be the greatest attraction of the ruined city that was buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. That's because it is the only 'domus' whose second floor and decorations were discovered almost completely intact. As such, it offers a vivid snapshot of life in Pompeii at the time and gives modern-day visitors immediate contact with the ancient world. Discover the enchanting world of Taylor Swift's "Lover" house, a place where the pop icon's creativity and personal life intertwine.
